WATER IS A HUMAN RIGHT
Water is considered a basic human right according to many international treaties, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

But in CANADA, running water is not available to INDIGENOUS PEOPLE living in Manitoba. The Island Lake area of four reserves has a population of 10,000 and half of its homes DO NOT HAVE RUNNING WATER.

The Indigenous people of the Island Lake region have less clean water than people living in refugee camps overseas.

This isn’t happening in the third world, it’s happening in one of the WORLD’S RICHEST COUNTRIES.

Indigenous people in Canada live in third world conditions and MOST CANADIANS are NOT even AWARE of it.

If you CARE ABOUT PEOPLE in this country, if you are ASHAMED OF OUR GOVERNMENT and the way it treats Indigenous people, then take a stand.

Why should CANADA’S INDIGENOUS people be treated like THIRD WORLD CITIZENS?

Join us in the “WATER IS A HUMAN RIGHT” campaign to make Canada adhere to the same standards the United Nations says are rights FOR ALL.

We have prepaid postcards to the Prime Minister of Canada using the image above. They are available at AMC, 2nd floor, 275 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. You can also sign the online petition on the right or join our facebook group, Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs.

"Education is the new weapon of Indian People"
Eddie Box, SOUTHERN UTE
People have the ability to adapt. In these modern times we must get educated so the people don't lose. We need lawyers, doctors, nurses, foresters, scientists, educators, carpenters, welders. These skills are needed to help the people. While we are learning, we need to remember to keep the culture, learn the dances, sing the songs, learn the language, and maintain the Red Road for future generations.
Great Spirit, let my education never lack the meaning and value of spirituality.

We are Metis women whom stand tall and strong, even thou things do not go right in our lives, we will find a way to manage because we are strong Metis. There are times we feel like falling, but then we feel our blood roaring like strong rivers through our veins, we stand tall and then we recall we are Metis. Made of many different veins of blood, we tell all of our families that we are THE GREAT METIS. So always remember that no matter what or why, we will never fall, for we will always get up and find a way to mend anything that stands in our way...

WHO ARE THE METIS?
The Métis have been called the forgotten people—a nation stranded between two worlds, drifting somewhere in the past. Recollections of the Métis are hazy, generally linked with a bitter struggle led by Louis Riel.

Yet the Métis had a strong presence before Riel, and today other leaders have taken his place, addressing concerns that stretch back through history. Beyond any political issue is a culture that is undeniably part of Canada's mosaic.

The Métis were—and are—a people distinguished by their independence, individuality, and resilience. Though a century has passed since Riel died on the gallows, the Métis did not die with him. In 1982, the Métis were acknowledged as an aboriginal people in the Constitution. And as Canadians continue to search for an identity, it is inevitable that the contribution of the Métis will be fully recognized.

SOU'WEST NOVA METIS COUNCIL
OUR VISION
As Aboriginal people of Canada, recognized under section 35 of the Constitution of Canada, we share a unique role with our First Nation and Inuit relations. It will be our goal to become self-governing as laid out in the final report of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples. Once again, for our ancestors, our families and our future generations, we shall become known as "the people who own themselves".

SNC-Lavalin to develop the proposed Lower Churchill hydropower project
September 03 2011

SNC-Lavalin was awarded the contract to develop the proposed Lower Churchill hydropower project, by Nalcor, a crown-owned energy corp.

It has recently been reported that Newfoundland and Labrador’s Crown utility has not proven the need for the proposed $6.2-billion Muskrat Falls hydroelectric project, an environmental assessment released Thursday has concluded.

"The panel concluded that Nalcor (Energy) had not demonstrated the justification of the project as a whole in energy and economic terms," said the 355-page report by a joint federal-provincial review panel.

SNC-Lavalin, The Montreal based company, has recently been reported as being in an RCMP corruption probe related to a deal involving a $1.2B bridge project in Bangladesh.

SNC-Lavalin has also recently been exposed as one of Canada's exporters responsible for environmental destruction of the indigenous people and their lands of the Amazonian rainforest.

Should canadians and enviro groups be concerned?...
